Paternity Personal DNA Self-Testing (or another suspected close biological relationship)

NOTE: Due to New York State Department of Health regulations, Personal DNA Testing (Do-It-Yourself Kits) are not available for residents of New York.

Purpose: To determine, in private, if two persons are related. Examples include parent-child, siblings, half-siblings, or grandparent-grandchild, etc.

Advantages of Self-Testing:

  • Samples are collected privately
  • Physicians, blood collectors, lawyers and courts are not involved
  • BRT will provide a kit for collecting samples and materials for returning the kit to the laboratory
  • Cells are collected easily and safely from the inside of the cheek (buccal swab)
  • DNA results are reported only to a specific designated person, in strict confidence

Limitations of Self-Testing:

  • BRT Laboratories, Inc. cannot attest to the samples' identities (the source from whom they were collected), the impartiality of the specimen collector, or the integrity of the samples during or following collection
  • The test does not meet AABB Accreditation Standards
  • Results are not accepted as legal evidence in court

Reports based on self-tests will indicate these limitations.

Collection of Sample: Call 1-800-765-5170 for a kit and instruction.
