Paternity DNA Testing

DNA testing can provide proof of a blood relationship between two or more people in a family. BRT Laboratories, Inc. has been at the forefront of DNA Testing since 1985, and we take pride in providing reliable paternity test results with quick turnaround. We have a variety of collection options and work with a global network of US embassies to help make the paternity testing process simple and hassle-free.

DNA Paternity Testing compares the DNA patterns of a child and alleged father to determine if there is a biologically possible relationship or not. Though generally referred to simply as "paternity testing" or "DNA test," BRT Labs' paternity DNA testing can also provide evidence for or against a relationship between brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren, uncles/aunts and nieces/nephews, as well as relationships among various other family members. We can even perform paternity tests during pregnancy if certain conditions are met.

We offer two levels of paternity testing:

DNA Paternity Testing for Legal Purposes

DNA Paternity Testing results are often essential in legal situations, including child custody and/or support cases. BRT Labs has built a worldwide reputation as a quality laboratory over the last 60 years, and families, courts, lawyers, child support agencies, and physicians turn to us when they need reliable results. We have provided DNA testing for medical and legal purposes since 1985, and you can find us on the AABB Accredited Relationship Testing Facilities List, a recognized indicator of quality paternity relationship testing.

In addition to being a reliable relationship testing provider, BRT prides itself on its fast turnaround. Results generally take from (2-3) two to three weeks depending on the samples provided. Generally, results that indicate paternity have a calculated probability of paternity of at least 99%.

Collection Sites and Options for Legal Purposes

BRT Labs makes paternity testing convenient. If you are in the Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC, or Virginia area, you can visit us here at our laboratory to have your sample collected. In addition, we work with a global network of US embassies. Most people travel only a short distance to provide their DNA samples.

Sample collection is painless. After a cheek (buccal) swab is collected, the samples are securely shipped to BRT's laboratory, where we determine the probability of a relationship between two or more people. We then compile the DNA testing results into a report and send them to a court, the tested individuals, or to a representative of their choosing. Samples and tests are handled with the utmost dignity, privacy, and security at all times.

DNA Paternity Testing for Personal Knowledge

An alternative method of DNA testing is for personal knowledge. Unlike legal testing, when testing for personal knowledge you can self-test at home (Do-it-Yourself). Testing for personal knowledge provides information about biological family relationships. While these test results do not meet AABB Standards and are not acceptable for legal or court purposes, they can often bring peace of mind to people within a family.

Collection Sites and Options for Personal Knowledge Tests

Family members collect cheek swabs within the privacy of their own home and send the samples to BRT. BRT provides a sample collection kit and materials for mailing the kit. After testing, paternity test results are reported to a specified individual.
